Terrence McKenna (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrence_McKenna) was an early proponent of Singularity-like ideas. Namely (through ill-founded crackpot numerology) he created Novelty Theory (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novelty_Theory) which bears quite a resemblance to Kurzweil's Law of Accelerating Returns. The difference is he started doing all of this in the early 1960s.

I had a Chance to See him lecture years ago... TOTALLY Captivating... and he told us that the Mushroom had showed him the "transendental object at the end of time... "

He said that the closest thing we have in our world to it... was the Mirror Ball.

    I thought he was BRILLIANT.

the Article he did for the lifestyles Section of the New York Times... Bears my image.
